Pokémon Platinum Mewtwo Race Guide

Notes

• This guide is heavily reliant on RNG
• I learned that the Psychic type kind of sucks in Sinnoh
• Save at key battles in order to soft-reset with L+R+START+SELECT if things don't go your way
• Options play a huge role
• Open them as soon as they become available
• Battle Style is a huge time waster/saver
• Using "SET" skips dialog after you defeat an opponent's Pokemon
• Using "SHIFT" allows you to change Pokemon mid-fight without losing a turn
• Battle Scene "OFF" will skip all attack animations
• You will need to swap TMs aggressively
• Mewtwo learns almost nothing useful via level up
• Make sure you buy TWO Thunder TMs when you get to that point

Twinleaf Town

• Race begins
• Name your character and rival
• As soon as TV broadcast ends, change options
• - Text FAST
• - Battle scene OFF
• - Battle style SET
• - Frame ANY (pick one)
• Take a step for rival dialogue
• Go to top-left house and go upstairs
• Go downstairs and exit house
• Head north
• YES to both Rowan dialogues
• Save game in front of briefcase
• Open briefcase
• Select Turtwig to get Mewtwo
• Say YES to rival
• Rival battle #1
• Finish battle then check stats
• Soft reset if you don't like them
• Leave home, head north
• Go left to Lake Verity

• Cyrus dialogue
• Leave
• Keep heading right to go to Sandgem Town




Sandgem Town

• Friend and professor scene
• Say YES to professor to get Pokedex
• Leave lab
• Friend (Lucas/Dawn) tutorial
• Teach TM27 RETURN to Mewtwo
• - This is to fight Pokemon resistant to Psychic
• - Replace this with Swift at Lv. 15
• Head back to Twinleaf




Twinleaf Town

• Go to bottom-right house and talk to mom
• Get parcel
• Head back to Sandgem Town




Sandgem Town

• Go to route where friend went (north)
• Catching tutorial (you get 5 Poke Balls)
• Keep heading north to Jubilife City
• Catch a Bidoof and a Starly




Jubilife City

• Looker cutscene
• Go to Trainers School
• Give parcel to rival
• Check blackboard, immediately exit
• Poketch campaign clowns
• - Right of Poke Mart
• - In front of Poketch building to the north
• - In front of TV building to the north
• Give coupons to President for Poketch
• Press top button of Poketch 1 time
• Head north of Poke Mart and go right
• Rival battle #2
• PREPARE FOR LATER: Fight all the trainers in your path until Valley Windworks
• Keep heading right to Oreburgh

• Go to coal mines in southeast
• Head down the stairs
• Go south and then west
• Pick up the Escape Room
• Battle the Worker
• Talk to Roark
• Teach HM06 ROCK SMASH to Bidoof
• Use Escape Rope
• Heal at Pokemon Center
• Buy at least 2 potions at the Poke Mart
• Enter gym and beat the two youngsters
• Save before Roark
• Fight and defeat Roark
• Heal at Poke Center
• Go to Poke Mart and buy 2 Escape Ropes
• Head west back to Jubilife

• Head north
• Galactic Grunts
• - Use Return against the Stunky
• Keep heading north to Floaroma
• Enter the cave
• Pick up the Potion
• Use rock smash and exit the cave at the rightmost exit
• LV 15: Replace Return with Swift




Floaroma

• Heal at Poke Center
• Head right to leave Floaroma and talk to little girl
• Keep heading right, go to Valley Windworks and fight grunt at entrance
• Go west back to Floaroma and go to the northwest of the town. Enter "pool"
• Flower field battle
• Heal at Poke Center
• Go back to Valley Windworks
• Save the game before Commander Mars. It may be a tough fight
• Defeat Commander Mars
• - Disable Purugly's Faint Attack
• Leave Valley Windworks, head west
• Go north up the bridge to get to Eterna Forest
• Enter the house on the mountain terrain near Forest Entrance for free heals




Eterna Forest

• Team up with Cheryl
• Exit forest to northeast
• Head right to Eterna




Eterna

• Enter gym
• Fight all trainers
• Beat Gardenia
• Leave gym, go to Poke Mart and buy 5 Super Potions
• Heal at Poke Center
• Head northeast to statue
• Head west again to meet Cynthia and get HM01 CUT
• Teach HM01 CUT to Bidoof
• Use cut to enter Galactic Building




Galactic HQ

• Stairs: R, L, L
• Defeat Commander Jupiter
• - Disable Skuntank's Night Slash
• Exit Galactic building
• Head to bike shop and get a free bike
• Get egg from Cynthia
• Register bike
• Get on the bike and press B 4 times to enter 4th gear
• Heal at Poke Center
• Head to house RIGHT of Pokemon Center and talk to the old guy
• Head south to Cycling Road




Cycling Road

• Avoid as many trainers as possible. The end of the road will lead back to Oreburgh
• Head east on Route 207
• Say anything to friend
• Enter Mt. Coronet




Mt. Coronet

• Head south and east
• Cyrus dialogue
• Keep heading east and exit the cave
• Keep on heading east until you reach Hearthome




Hearthome

• Go North to Contest Hall and speak to purple lady
• Go to Poke Center to heal and deposit Egg in PC
• Fight the gym
• - Disable Mismagius' SHADOW BALL to beat it
• - You may need to soft reset several times
• Head East out of the city to Route 209
• - Prepare for a rival battle in the transition




Route 209

• Keep heading east and reach Pastoria
• Head north once you reach the crumbling stone tower




Solaceon Town

• Go to the northernmost part of the town and head as far east as possible to enter Solaceon Ruins

• Navigation puzzle
• - TOP RIGHT
• - LOWER LEFT
• - TOP RIGHT
• - TOP LEFT

• Pick up the top-right item, it's HM05 DEFOG
• Teach HM05 DEFOG to Starly
• Use an Escape Rope
• Exit Solaceon Town to the north




Route 210

• Head north as much as possible until you reach the Psyduck horde
• Head into the cafe cabin and buy 3 dozen Moomoo Milks
• Head east to rainy Route 215




Route 215

• Ruin maniac fight is a slog
• Fight the two Ace Trainers separately. Do NOT do a double battle with them.
• Exit to the east to reach Veilstone




Veilstone

• Heal at Poke Center
• Fight the Gym
• Heal at Poke Center
• Deposit Egg in PC
• Fight Galactic Grunts to the north with friend
• Enter the hideout with Looker
• Pick up the dropped item HM02 FLY
• Teach HM02 FLY to Starly
• Exit Veilstone to the Southeast

• Head south




Valor Lakefront

• Continue south, then head west once you get to the villas
• Head south again through the hotel
• - Talk to the policeman for a free heal
• Once you get to the ocean, head west toward Pastoria




Pastoria

• Go to the Gym
• - Prepare for a rival battle at the entrance
• Fight the gym
• - Use DISABLE on super effective attacks from Wake
• - Beware Floatzel's AQUA JET
• Talk to Wake in front of the Great Marsh
• Chase the Galactic Grunt
• Heal with the policeman
• Continue to chase the grunt
• Get SecretPotion from Cynthia
• Fly to Solaceon




Solaceon

• Travel north to the Psyduck horde
• Give SecretPotion to Psyduck
• Head north
• Use DEFOG once the fog thickens
• Catch a Bibarel for SURF later
• Ride along the bike bridges to pick up TM30 SHADOW BALL
• Teach TM30 SHADOW BALL to Mewtwo in place of Barrier




Celestic Town

• Heal at Poke Center
• Fight Galactic Grunt blocking the cave
• Enter the cave and inspect the painting
• - You may want to save first
• Battle Cyrus
• Teach HM03 SURF to Bibarel
• FLY to Floaroma Town




Floaroma

• Head east to the Valley Windworks
• Use Surf to get behind the fence
• Press bottom button on Poketch once (App #07)
• Find the Max Elixir (next to bottom-rightmost tile of the fan) and save it for later
• Press top button on Poketch once (App #05)
• FLY to Jubilife




Jubilife

• Heal at Poke Center
• Head north and exit from the west




Route 218

• Surf west to Canalave

• Buy 10 Revives and 2 Parlyz Heals at Poke Mart
• Save before you cross the bridge
• Rival battle on bridge
• Heal at Poke Center
• FLY to Jubilife

• Head north toward Floaroma
• Enter the cave
• Surf in the pool, head northeast
• Pick up TM03 WATER PULSE
• Teach TM03 WATER PULSE to Mewtwo in place of Swift
• Use Escape Rope
• FLY to Canalave

• Enter the Gym
• Save before Ace Trainer Cesar
• Fight Byron
• - Take out everything with water pulse
• - Keep moomoo milks handy
• Head south and take the boat to Iron Island
• Talk to Riley
• Teach HM04 STRENGTH to Bibarel
• Go back to the boat and leave the island
• Head north to the library
• Go to 3F
• Leave library
• FLY to Pastoria

• Leave to the east
• Heal with policeman
• Head to Valor Lakefront

• Avoid grunts and enter the cave to the southeast
• Fight Commander Saturn

• Head north and west to Lake Verity

• - Beware Purugly's Hypnosis

• Leave to the northeast, enter Mt. Coronet

• Smash the rock to the east and push the eastern boulder to the east
• Ignore eastern exit and go north as far as you can
• Head west, take the stairs down
• Take the top path all the way north
• Take the stairs up
• Ignore Regice Cave
• Exit through the west exit

• Head west
• Head into the lodge and get in bed for free heals
• Head north




Route 217

• Head northwest
• Pick up HM08 ROCK CLIMB behind and slightly to the right of the house with the yellow roof
• Teach HM08 ROCK CLIMB to Bibarel
• Head north

• Head west to Snowpoint City

• Heal at Poke Center
• Fight gym (look up a map)
• - Consider setting Battle Style to SWITCH
• - Sneasel: Disable Feint Attack
• - Froslass: Disable Shadow Ball

• - Piloswine: Use Water Pulse
• Buy 10 Hyper Potions at Poke Mart
• Head back south and west to Lake Acuity
• ROCK CLIMB the cliff and enter the lake

• Talk to the Grunt at Galactic HQ
• Enter Department Store
• Go to third floor
• Talk to bottom merchant
• Purchase 2x TM25 THUNDER and 1x TM38 FIRE BLAST
• Heal at Poke Center
• Enter Galactic Warehouse

• Head all the way to the east, fight the Grunts and continue east
• Take the stairs up
• Take the next set of stairs up
• Take teleporter on the left
• Take the next teleporter
• Take the stairs up
• Take the teleporter on the left

• Take the stairs down
• Pick up the item on the left of the boxes (Galactic Key)
• Unlock the door and head south
• Take the stairs up
• Go back to the Galactic HQ

• Head up into the room with the scientist watching TV
• Take the teleporter
• Talk to Looker
• Head west and take the teleporter
• Heal in the left bed

• Pick up the Full Restore

• Climb the stairs
• Skip the next set of stairs, use strength to push boulder down
• Head north, cross the bridges
• Enter the hole with the rubble beneath it

Shit Gets Serious

• Head east and north
• Use ROCK CLIMB once
• Use another max repel
• Head west and enter the hole
• Use ROCK CLIMB
• Go up the stairs, around the grunts, then down the stairs and out the hole
• Head east and down the stairs
• Use ROCK CLIMB on the western rocks
• Head west, using the staircases
• Enter the hole

• Teach Mewtwo TM36 FIRE BLAST in place of THUNDER
• - Try to save FIRE BLAST PP for enemy MAGNETON

• Purchase 10 Full Restores, 10 Hyper Potions, 15 to 20 Revives
• Teach TM25 THUNDER to Mewtwo in place of DISABLE
• Save
• Step near the Ace Trainer
• - Final battle with Rival
• Heal at Poke Center
• Initiate conversation with Ace Trainer
• Enter the Pokemon League, saving at your own discretion

• - Yanmega: THUNDER, reset if not OHKO

• Heal if need be
• Begin the battle
• - Mr. Mime: SHADOW BALL

• - Alakazam: SHADOW BALL
• - Bronzong: SHADOW BALL
= Bronzong will tank a ton of these. When you run out of PP for all of your moves except PSYCHO CUT, use your MAX ELIXIR.
• - Gallade: SHADOW BALL and PSYCHO CUT
• WARNING: Entering Cynthia's room will automatically start the battle
• - Heal and use your MAX ELIXIR if you have not already
• - Save your game after the elevator
